How to administer your NAD+ Pen
How to Use Your Hōlte NAD+ Pen®
This guide provides step-by-step instructions to safely and effectively use your Hōlte NAD+ Pen® for subcutaneous injections. Please follow the steps carefully to ensure proper use.
1. Setting Up the Pen
- Prepare the Pen and Cartridge
Remove the Hōlte NAD+ Pen® and an NAD+ cartridge from their packaging. - Allow the NAD+ cartridge to rest at room temperature for 5–10 minutes.
2. Unscrew the Cartridge Holder
- Take the lid off the pen to expose the clear cartridge holder.
- Unscrew the clear cartridge holder from the base of the pen.
- If the plunger is exposed, press it into the base of the pen with your finger.
3. Insert the NAD+ Cartridge
- Take the NAD+ cartridge and insert it into the clear cartridge holder with the silver tip going in first.
- Screw the clear cartridge holder (with the NAD+ cartridge inside) back onto the base of the pen firmly.
4. Prime the Pen
- Twist the base of the pen until the dose meter is fully extended.
- Push the dose meter back in and watch the plunger move up inside the cartridge holder.
- Repeat this process until the plunger touches the bung at the bottom of the cartridge and you feel resistance.
- Your pen is now prepped and ready for daily use. Continue with the steps below.
Administering your NAD+ subcutaneous injection
1. Attach the needle
- Take a 4mm needle tip from the pack and gently but firmly screw it onto the end of the Hōlte NAD+ Pen®.
- Do not remove the needle tip cover yet
2 . Clean the injection site
- Use an alcohol wipe to clean the injection site.
- Choose a fatty area such as the abdomen (belly). Rotate the injection site each time to avoid skin damage or dimpling.
3. Set your dose
- Twist the base of the pen until the pointer lines up with your prescribed dose:
30 units (0.3ml) for a high dose.
15 units (0.15ml) for a maintenance dose. - Remove both the outer and inner needle tip covers.
4. Administer the Injection
- Gently pinch the skin around the injection site, pulling it about 4mm away from the muscle.
- Place the needle at the injection site and press the pen down to pierce the skin.
- Press the button at the base of the pen to depress the plunger and administer the NAD+.
- Hold the pen steady and count down three seconds before removing the needle.
5. Dispose of the Needle
- Carefully replace the outer needle tip cover.
- Unscrew the needle tip with the cover on and dispose of it in the sharps bin provided.
6. Store the Pen
- Replace the pen lid.
- Store the Hōlte NAD+ Pen® in the fridge (between 2–8°C / 35.6–46.4°F) to keep the NAD+ cartridge fresh.
Important Notes for Safe Use
- Rotate injection sites to prevent skin damage or dimpling.
- It is normal to experience the following after an injection:
- A drop of NAD+ or blood on the skin.
- A small bruise if the needle wasn't kept steady.
- A temporary red mark at the injection site. This will fade and is harmless.
If concerned about visible marks, consider injecting in areas covered by clothing. - Use a free needles for each use
- Use NAD+ cartridges before their expiration date.
- Keep cartridge refrigerated
